The Gauley River National Recreation Area
The Gauley River in West Virginia has been rated one of the top ten commercially run rivers in the world. Dropping over 680 feet in 26 miles, it creates more than 120 rapids, 56 of which are rated as Class III or higher.
It is responsible for unrivaled tales of adventure, excitement and river folklore.
The rapids on the Middle/Lower Gauley are long and continuous,

The
Upper Gauley River is one of the most famous stretches of
whitewater in the country. In less than 10 miles, you can experience
some of the best rapids in the world. This section is very intense;
it is not recommended for first time rafters.
